Year: 2024
Location: Kyiv, Ukraine
It is a memorial installation that symbolises a deep and enduring process of healing and rebirth. The light installation is located on the site of the destroyed Romanivskyi Bridge in Irpin, which, after all the horrors of the first days of the Russian invasion, became a symbol of the thirst for life and was named the ‘Road of Life’.
To enhance the effect of presence, we used special lighting techniques that draw attention not only to the tragedy of the Ukrainian people, but also emphasise the life-affirming philosophy of the project.
Using special museum light, we emphasised the elements of the place of remembrance, and with narrow-beam isolated touches, we revealed red threads that symbolise the suture on a fresh wound and the process of its healing. The pulsating light dramatically emphasises these red threads, which connect the halves of the destroyed bridge. This symbolises that concrete and metal can be destroyed, but spirit, will and faith cannot be destroyed.
The Romanivskyi Bridge is part of the large project Kyiv Region. Places of Memory’ project @placesofmemory , which will allow everyone to witness the tragic events that unfolded in the Kyiv region in the spring of 2022.
